SHOROUK HELIOPOLIS CLUB, DREAM OF THE 21ST CENTURY
The great idea of building another extension of the club began in 1983. The club was offered 4000acres of woods, wind shielded by a barrier of thick wild trees in the outskirts of the 10th. of Ramadan city. The land was only offered to be protected against wind and other damaging environmental conditions, and to form a special club to care for those wild trees. That project, however, was killed before it was even born due to many financial factors. After that, many more ideas were born, but in different directions and other different cities. For the Heliopolis club, there were lots of choices in cities like El Rehab, New Heliopolis City, El Talaea, and the airport yard. A complete study was then conducted to cover everything about the project. For instance, the exact time needed, the distance to and from Heliopolis main club in Roxy, along with all other utilities like sewage, water, electricity, dimensions of the land, cost, total area used, possibilities of extensions, surroundings society and environment, public transportation, highways and roads. In the beginning, El Rehab City was chosen. It was described to be very convenient as a place for establishing the club, and as a special society for the club members. But the first choice was for El Shorouk City. Unfortunately, some members of the public committee then rejected the whole project. The board of Directors then wisely handled the reasons for that rejection, then there were no more excuses for the plan to be rejected. The project had again been proposed to the members of the public committee, and the club witnessed the strongest project support ever. Almost all members of the committee agreed it on. Agreements were collected, connections were made with the Minister of Housing and re-constructions But then, the proposal was refused again by the Ministry of Housing and re-constructions. For this, plans were redirected again towards El Rehab City. But after several negotiations with the Ministry done by the board of directors, and lead by Minister Foad Sultan, the Ministry had finally agreed on giving El Shorouk land back to Heliopolis club. That time, the deal was made with much better terms of possession, and more timing needed for establishing the club.
